My Podcast Debut

I'm so excited to share with you that I was recently a guest on the Capturing Magic podcast! I was so very nervous to record the episode, but I had a lot of fun chatting with Steph about Project Life, memory keeping, and Walt Disney World. Check it out!

Also, I was so thrilled to hear Steph reveal that she is now offering digital scrapbooking classes over at The Daily Digi!! I'm all signed up and I can't wait to try them out, so I'll give you the full scoop as I move through them!

The Portrait Project, Week 16

Documenting RIGHT NOW is so very important. After all, once you blink, right now is gone! Inspired by The Happy Family Movement, I'm making an effort to capture at least one picture of Monica each week, and I hope to continue this effort for a very long time!

30 Days of Lists, March 16-30

I'm so sad to see this round of 30 Days of Lists come to an end! I always enjoy the process and taking a few moments each day to sit quietly and be introspective is always refreshing. I've shared the first half of the month, so here's the second half month in pocket pages
I'm using the Project Life Teen Girl themed pack and it made me happy to have such bright colors during this bleary, wintery month.
The March title card and teeny little word stickers are from a previous Studio Calico kit. If you've read more than one of my posts you probably already know that I adore the MAMBI clear stickers. Just can't get enough of them!
In truth I must confess that now that it's all done I'm not a huge fan of the "Epic Fail" card for day 19. I think it's too busy. But it's done! So it's done. Rolling on...
The "Enjoy This Day" card is from the Teen Girl pack and the elements are all from previous Studio Calico kits. I'm slowly learning to embellish.
Towards the end, I changed around a few of the prompts. For example, I'm not a big history buff so I changed number 30 from "historical characters I would like to meet" to "fictional characters" because that is more meaningful for me. That's one of the best things about 30 Days of Lists - making it work for you! There's no wrong way to list!
The "Go-To meals when I have guests" prompt made me laugh when I realized just how little I entertain. We host Thanksgiving and we have our friends over for a BBQ now and then, but by and large when we get together with people we get food from somewhere besides my kitchen - and I'm ok with that!
I can't wait until the next round of listing! Will you join me?

Project Life 2014, Week 11

I'm embarking on a new adventure by documenting one week at a time in my Project Life album. My Week 11 began on March 15. Here's how it looks in my album:
Here's the left side:
WHAT'S HAPPENING HERE: My friend Lori and I set up a table to advertise for our scavenger hunt, a beautiful day led to a bike ride and a crash, and my hubby let Monica climb up on the roof with him when they got a frisbee stuck up there. EEK!
TECHNIQUES: This week I used the Project Life Blush Core Kit to bring some cheer and springtime to my layout. I love the bright colors and the white borders around the Tracey Larsen templates. After Mother Nature's crazy, snowy winter I'm so ready for some spring sunshine! "Real Life" and "lovely DAY" are both from Ali Edwards.

Here's the right side:
WHAT'S HAPPENING HERE: Speaking of Mother Nature... she struck again and we had yet another snow day on Monday. I'm not sure Monica has been to school for a full 5 days yet in 2014, but I'm not complaining. I love bonus days with my girl! Monica had a rough weekend with her asthma (yet another weekend where we went from outside in t-shirts to a snow day, so it's really no wonder) and I couldn't help but sneak a picture of her adorable self zonked out in the chair. A co-worker is moving to Tennessee to be with her grandkids, so we bid her a sad farewell over steaks.
TECHNIQUES: I used a bit of washi tape (from my local Dollar Tree!) down the side of the picture of Monica zonked out in the chair. I love it when cheap is cute! The "snow day" is from Ali Edwards and I'm hoping that will be the last time this year I get to use an element from that particular set!

I hope you have a wonderful week!

Simple Things Sunday, Edition 23

This week I am simply grateful for friendship and the generosity of local businesses. On Thursday night, Lori and I got to be guest bartenders at The Brick Hotel as a fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day and had a blast! The Brick generously donated $1 for every drink sold, 10% of all food sales, and 70% of the bartender tips!

I tended bar for a bit when I was in college, but that's been longer ago than I would like to admit. It was so much fun to  be behind the bar again, especially with Lori by my side. We laughed and laughed at our blundering bartending, and the customers were so supportive and generous. We had a room full of friends and family that came to show their support and have a drink or two. All in all, it was a very good night!
Happy Sunday!

Project Life 2014, Week 10

I'm embarking on a new adventure by documenting one week at a time in my Project Life album. My Week 10 began on March 8. Here's how it looks in my album:
Here's the left side:
WHAT'S HAPPENING HERE: The big event this week was our trip to a local zoo for Star Wars Day, so that takes up just about this whole page. Super good time!

TECHNIQUES: I used Another Galaxy, a collaboration between Traci Reed & Julie Billingsley to create this week's spread. It's fun and vaguely Star Wars themed, so I was pleased.
Nothing super fancy this week.
Here's the right side:
WHAT'S HAPPENING HERE: I was thrilled to be interviewed on Capturing Magical Memories, so I included the intro graphic here.  We stocked up at Sam's and I took a picture of my cart for posterity, we had dinner with my parents (the nerd glasses on this kid make me laugh), and I took a screen shot of a super sweet text I got from a friend and co-worker. Monica went back to her asthma doctor (good report!), and I spent 3 days doing kindergarten registration at work.
On Friday, I received the devastating news that a young and vibrant friend of mine had passed away suddenly while on vacation in the Dominican Republic. Life is so very short and you just never know when your ride is over. Hug your kids and live it up while you can.

TECHNIQUES: I used some Ali Edwards digital brushes and some MAMBI clear stickers to dress up some of the pictures. I also used a filler card and a wood veneer star from a past Studio Calico Project Life Kit. The bottom left card about kindergarten registration is difficult to read in the pictures here but is very clear and clean in person.

What are you working on this week?
