I'm a huge fan of Project Life and memory keeping in general and last fall, I really started looking at how my photography skills (or total lack thereof) play a huge role in the quality of what I'm preserving for the future. I took a class at a local college and walked out the other side even more confused than I went in. It was called Photography 101 but the teacher assumed we knew a lot more than I did and his answers to my questions only confused me more. Like many people, I assumed that maybe (just maybe!) having a nice camera would help my pictures turn out better, so I bought a DSLR. While that didn't turn out to be true (shocker), I do have to clarify one thing before I go on: I adore my camera. Like, would grab it if my house was on fire, switched from Vera Bradley to a Jo Tote, love that thing. At this point I want to take the pictures I know it's capable of with some sense of knowledge and skill that I know I'm capable of.
I was thrilled to have the opportunity to become an affiliate for Mom and Pop Photo School. I've heard very good things about their photo courses and they were awesome enough to let me try out their 101 Set of courses absolutely free, just so I could let you guys know what I think of them. The courses are geared towards parents that are looking to get great pictures of their kids, but are too busy to sit down and figure out how to do it.
I love that their classes are self paced (read: when we have a busy week I can drag my feet a bit, or if I have a chunk of time I can plow through it). While this doesn't factor into the quality of their product, I have to tell you - the website is absolutely adorable! It's calm, fun, and easy to read and Candace is so down to earth and casual that reading her words feels like joining a friend for coffee.
All I've done so far is register and I am already a big fan. I immediately received an email with details on how to proceed and what to expect, and a PDF guide for the classes.
I will be working my way through the lessons, tips, and suggestions over the course of the next month or so and I will be sharing my thoughts and results with you as I go along. I would love it if you would join me! Just click on the banner to check Mom & Pop Photo out for yourself!
